I was recently awarded the commission of a large scale ceramic water feature by a private collector in West Tennessee. A massive undertaking, the fountain's nine interlocking components were made from nearly 8oo lbs of wet clay.
The pillars and bowls were thrown and altered on the wheel while the rock-like base was hand built solid and later cut and hollowed.
After a five day bisque firing, the fountain was lightly soda glazed during the 44 hour firing of my fast fire type wood kiln, giving the feature its unique color variations.
A 40 gallon reservoir and 250 gph pump were installed below ground level to receive and re-circulate the feature's water.
